Following completion of doctoral studies at the University of Virginia in 1971, James Brewbaker joined the teacher education faculty of Columbus State University. A married father of two and grandfather of three, he enjoys gourmet cooking, theater, gardening, and travel.

Professionally, Dr. Brewbaker likes to write, all sorts of writing. He edited Poems by Adolescents and Adults (2002) for the National Council of Teachers of English and completed a five-year stint as poetry editor of English Journal in 2008. His research interests focus on young adult literature and multicultural education. He takes great satisfaction in participation in professional organizations and their programs. In 2006 he received a lifetime service award from the Georgia Council of Teachers of English.

For nearly two years he has edited the expanded College of Education Quarterly newsletter.
