Dr. Clay NicksAssistant Professor,
Education: Lipscomb University, Middle Tennessee State University Specialty Areas: Exercise Science Dr. Clay Nicks came to Columbus State University in 2005. Prior to his arrival, he was a collegiate cross-country/ track and field coach for seven years and he worked in the corporate fitness industry for four years. Dr. Nicks received his B.S. in Exercise Science from Lipscomb University and earned a Ph.D. in Human Performance (Exercise Science) from Middle Tennessee State University. He is certified by the American College of Sports Medicine as a Health and Fitness Specialist. Dr. Nicks currently serves as the coordinator for the Exercise Science program and the CSU Human Performance Laboratory. He teaches several courses in the Exercise Science program including Basic Exercise Physiology, Clinical Exercise Physiology, Exercise Prescription for Special Populations, Kinesiology, and several others. His current research interests include respiratory muscle function during exercise and physiological aspects of intermittent sports. He has published and presented several professional papers at the national and regional levels. Dr. Nicks is an active member of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), the Southeastern Chapter of the ACSM, and the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
